The last few weeks we've shown you some of the bigger things we did on our Norway Trip. But, being one of our favorite places of all time, there are still MORE things you can't miss if you visit this amazing country. Staying in a cabin along the fjord is one of them. Waking up with the majestic mountains/cliffs next to you is indescribable.

We stayed two nights at Vangsgaarden Gjestiveri in Aurland, a small town near Flam which lies along the fjord. The town itself doesn't have much going on, but in Norway, that's kind of the point - to slow down and enjoy nature's majestic beauty. This little family-owned bed and breakfast was a quaint and basic accommodation, but what it may have lacked in amenities inside, it more than made up for with the views.
The first night we stayed in the main house. The room was nothing special, but it was along the private walkway between several outbuildings on the property and G loved getting to meet the resident dog. The property features an on site restaurant which serves delicious food. In fact, we ate here both nights it was so good! Ignore the price tag, you won't find anything less expensive anywhere. :)
Breakfast is served in an old house a few steps down the private lane and consisted of yogurt, cereals, breads, and fruit. It certainly isn't what we are used to in Finland, but we made do. Coming from the US, home of the continental breakfast, it will seem lavish. Click through the gallery below to see some images from the hotel.
Night two was in one of Vangsgaarden's self-service cabins along the fjord. Small, but fully-functional and newly-built, these little cabins are worth every penny. You can enjoy the fjord views from the living area, the upstairs loft, or the privacy of your balcony over the water. Our cabin had a bedroom, bathroom, loft with beds, living area and kitchen. There are no TVs, but there is good WiFi. You won't need to watch TV anyway, you'll be too busy enjoying the view from your balcony. Cleaning service is not included with these cabins, and guests are expected to sweep, take out the trash, and strip the beds themselves, but it doesn't detract from the experience in the least.
G loved the idea of the loft, but since he still gets up at night to check on us, we didn't feel comfortable having him sleep upstairs with just a ladder to get down. So he slept on the couch in the living room for the night.
The cabins here are THE way to go if you'll be in Aurland.
