Welcome to our blog! We are the Holladays! We are a family of 3 who recently sold everything and relocated to Finland for Adam's work. It's a temporary assignment, but we are making the most of our time here by traveling extensively, learning the language (HARD!), and making lifelong memories!
Adam, Cat, and G left Gainesville, Florida in January 2017 to embark upon an exciting adventure in Finland. Having caught the travel bug early in life, both Adam and Cat have always been anxious to live overseas and the perfect opportunity presented itself through Adam's work.

This blog will be a collection of stories, musings, travel photography and tips, and ideas to inspire as many people as possible to travel and explore - discovering the world around you.

Follow us on our journey as we discover a new region, new language, and new friends, all while attempting to acclimate to freezing temperatures (no more 84 degree Christmases that's for sure!).

We are often asked what Hot Ashes For Trees means, in fact, this is probably the first question nearly everyone asks. Fans of Pink Floyd, Hot Ashes For Trees is part of a line in the song "Wish You Were Here." It has been translated many times, by many people, although never confirmed by any members of the band itself. We translate the line to mean trading past good experiences for future greater ones, although these new experiences won't be the same. What is past is past.

We believe it is an appropriate title for our adventures and mirrors our outlook on life, education, and travel.
We are creating a small corner of the web that is our collection of travel reports, fun things to do with kids, funny stories and the excitement of traveling abroad.

Safe travels!
